    Life: 100%

    My new city is amazing.
    My apartment is amazing.
    My friends are amazing.
    My band is amazing.
    My days are amazing.

    I have never felt so happy or content.
    I have everything I ever wanted.
    And to think this time last year I was literally dying.
    Life is a twist, and you have to wait for your turn.

    the low down

    For reasons i am not sure of, I have not written here for weeks. I will put a swift end to that right now by taking this space and time to announce I am starting a rap group. Yes, a RAP GROUP! I posted bulletins on myspace, ads on craigslist, and hung posters all over west philadelphia last week, and I have got a number of people who are really interested now. I am SO EXCITED. A week ago I saw DJ Shadow and a number of amazing rappers and as I stood there absorbing it all something hit me and I knew this was something I wanted to do realllllly badly. A few days later I saw One Be Lo, Majestic and Iconz amung others at a little show in CT, and afterward I hung out and talked with them and they told me things about why they love to perform that made my heart smile. Now I have always loved rap and hip hop, and I have always loved to write rhymes, and more than anything I have always wanted to be in a band, so this is it!

    This was the ad i posted:

    Hey Laaaaaaadies!

    Have you got a passion for all things girly but can secretly craft the ill rhymes?!
    I am currently seeking two additional leading ladies between the ages of 18 and 28 in the Philadelphia area to join me in creating an all-girl rap trio reminiscent of old-school Beastie Boys.
    If this sounds interesting to you please send me a note and I will fill you in further!
    No experience necessary, all you need is the desire to twist words into something no one has ever heard before!

    One Looove,
    Emily

    Yesterday a boy named Crockett emailed me about the group, and I swear he is the coolest kid ever! Right now he is working is West Philly as what he calls a "Manny," living with a family and looking after the two kids. He is a painter and he writes his own music and basically makes things all the time. He has been in tons of gallery shows and went to Cooper Union and blah, blah, blah... He really puts me to shame with all the work he has done and things he has accomplished already. Anyways, he seems like he is really into getting some music made and that he is going to be a very ambitiously good influence- so I am very enthusiastic. He want to do something in the vein of the Brazilian band CSS. And obviously, CSS + Beastie Boys= AMAZING! My friend Lindsey is also interested and she is crafty and cute and really fun and witty, so she is obviously a winner. As for the last girl, Crockett says he has a friend named Molly that would be amazing, and if not, I have a girl in Brooklyn that is like a pop star or something and is just gorgeous all around, her face, her music, her voice, so we may have to import her! Alsoooo, I have a girl that wants to play drums at our shows and Crockett has a whole BAND that would be into playing the music at our shows called SHOUT MAGIC. So now that I have written this all down I am stoked beyond belief! Things are coming together in a big way.
    We are basically going to rap about being girls and doing ridiculous girl things that are so awesome that we need to rhyme about it... AND RAP PEOPLE'S FACES OFF.

    INDIE RAP.
    You better get into it so hard!

    I can't wait, I am going to go craft some ill ryhmes right now.

    EDIT: I just found out I have my first show on Saturday in Philly! ahahaha! YESSSSSSSSS.
    We are openning for shout magic, doing a little promotion, I can't wait!

    the curves and the cracks,
    the punches and smacks,
    the sweat that collects in the small of your back;
    the twists and the turns,
    the scolds and the burns,
    the lessons you've read but will never learn;
    the darkness and light,
    the nibbles and bites,
    the things that will keep you up all night;
    the pleasure and pain,
    the wind and the rain,
    the spills that always leave a stain;
    the hot and the cold,
    the bought and sold,
    the things you wish you had never been told;
    the ins and outs,
    the screams and shouts,
    the hopes that are filled with too much doubt;
    the beginning and end,
    the lovers and friends,
    the parts that get broken and never mend;
    the near and far,
    the bruises and scars,
    the decisions we make that will pull us apart.
